ThePortofSingaporeisthebusiestcontainertranshipmenthubandthelargestpubliclyownedportintheworld.LocatedonthesouthernendoftheMalayPeninsula,30kmsouth-westofthePortofJohorinMalaysia,thePortofSingaporeoffersconnectivitytomorethan600portsin123countries. TheMaritimeandPortAuthorityofSingapore(MPA)ownsandisresponsibleforthegrowthanddevelopmentoftheport. Theporthandled37.2milliontwenty-footequivalentunits(TEUs)ofcontainersand626.2milliontonnesofcargoin2019.Itattractsapproximately130,000vesselcallsayear,onanaverage,currently. TheportunderwentS$3.5bnprojectatthePasirPanjangterminaltoadd15megacontainershipberths,whichwascompletedinJune2015.Theterminaliscapableofhandlingcontainervesselsof130,000TEUsormore. TuasPort–anautomatedcontainerterminalatPortofSingapore “Tuasportisexpectedtobetheworld’sbiggestfully-automatedterminalwhencompleted.” Alargeautomatedcontainerterminal,namedTuasPort,iscurrentlybeingbuiltattheport,whichwillhavethecapacitytohandle65millionTEUsuponcompletionin2040.Tuasportisexpectedtobetheworld’sbiggestfully-automatedterminalwhencompleted. Tuasportwillincorporateinnovativetechnologiessuchasyardautomationandfull-electricautomatedguidedvehicles. AlltheexistingSingaporeancontainerterminalswillbemergedandrelocatedwiththeTuasterminal,uponitscompletion. Criticalfunctions Theportoffersarangeofservicesforbreakbulkandspecialisedcargoes.Thefacilitiesandservicesallowtheporttohandlecontainersandcargoincludingbulk,break-bulkandprojectcargo. Thewarehousesandopenyardspacesareusedforstorage,packing,consolidationanddistributionofcargo.Approximately80%ofthecontainersthatarriveinSingaporearetranshippedtootherports. ThePortofSingaporehasconventionalandspecial-purposeterminalstohandleoil,petroleumandnaturalgasproductsaswellascementandsteelproducts.Italsohasadedicatedcarterminal,whichisoneofthemajorautomotivetranshipmenthubsintheregion. Otherancillaryservicesincludethesupplyofwaterandprovisions.Pilotageandtowageservicesarealsoprovided. FacilitiesatPortofSingapore ThefacilitiesatthePortofSingaporeincludecontainerterminals,berths,cranes,storagefacilities,portinformationsystems,anapproachchannelandaninter-modaltransportsystem. ThePortofSingaporehasterminalsatBrani,Keppel,TanjongPagar,PasirPanjang,JurongandSembawang.Theterminalscanhandlecoastersandlighters,cargofreighters,RO-ROships,bulkcarriersandcontainervessels.Brani,KeppelandTanjongPagarareplannedtobemovedtoTuasPortby2027,followedbyPasirPanjangterminalsby2040. TheanchorageareasintheportincludetheEasternSector,theJurongSectorandtheWesternSector.Thepubliclandingareas,WestCoastPier,MarinaSouthPierandChangiPointFerryTerminal,havediningoutlets,shops,immigrationandferryservices. PortofSingaporeterminaloperators PSAInternationaloperatesthemajorterminalsintheportthroughitsflagshipterminalPSASingaporeTerminals.Thefourcontainerterminals,Brani,Keppel,TanjongPagar,PasirPanjang,andamulti-purposeterminal,Sembawang,aresolelyoperatedbyPSASingaporeTerminals. Oneterminal,Jurong,isoperatedbyJurongPortthathandlessteel,cement,copperslagandprojectcargomostly.TheMaritimePortAuthorityofSingaporelooksaftertheregulatoryfunctions. Security TheTerminalsSecurityDepartmentmaintainshighlevelsofsecurityinco-operationwiththeMaritimeandPortAuthorityofSingapore,thePoliceCoastGuard,theRepublicofSingaporeNavyandtheSingaporeCivilDefenceForce.Theportssecurityfeaturesincludeanarmedauxiliarypoliceforce,perimeterfencing,mannedgates,24hCCTVsurveillancesystemandmetaldetectorsforpeopleandcargo. TheportcomplieswithInternationalShipandPortFacilitySecurity(ISPS)Codeinordertoimprovethesecurityofshipsandtheportfacilities. Thepoliceforceconductsregularpatrolsandcheckstocontrolthreatsfromexternalsources.Othersecurityproceduresincludesecuritypasssystemforstaff,temporarypassesforvisitors,andanITsystemtotrackmovement/locationofallcontainerswithintheterminal. Equipment Theportisequippedwith204quaycranesandnumberofgantrycranesthatcanhandlelargershipssuchasUASCA7-Classvessels.Eachoperatorcanhandlesixcraneswiththehelpofremote-controlledbridgecranes. Thequaycraneshavetwin-liftcapabilityandcanoutreachacross22rowsofcontainers.Theportalsooperatesmobileharbourcranestohandleheavy-liftprojectcargo. Maintenanceservices Theporthasdedicatedanchoragesforshiprepairsandmaintenanceoperations.Theservicesofferedareshiprepairandmaintenance,monitoringoftemperatureforrefrigeratedcontainersandcontainerrepairandmaintenanceincludingthesupplyofsparepartsandservices.Theotherservicesincludecontainersurveyandwashing.
