ProjectGreenPortshastwoverticals-oneisGreenPortsInitiativesrelatedtoenvironmentalissuesandsecondisSwachhBharatAbhiyaan(CleanIndiaInitiative). TheGreenPortInitiativesincludetwelveinitiativeswhichwillbeimplementedunderstricttimeboundfashioninordertoachievethetargets.Someoftheseinitiativesareacquiringequipmentsrequiredformonitoringenvironmentalpollution,acquiringdustsuppressionsystem,settingupofsewage/wastewatertreatmentplants/garbagedisposalplant,settingupprojectsforenergygenerationfromrenewableenergysources,completionofshortfallsofOilSpillResponse(OSR)facilities,prohibitionofdisposalofalmostallkindofgarbageatsea,improvingthequalityofharbourwastesetc. Aspartoftheeffortstopromotetheuseofrenewableenergy,theSolarEnergyCorporationofIndia(SECI)ispartneringmajorportstoimplementsolarenergyprojects.Gridconnectedsolarpowerplantsarebeinginstalled.Rooftopsolarpowerprojectsarealsobeinginstalled. AsumofUS$100millionisbeinginvestedtoinstalla90MWofsolarenergycapacityat12portsand45MWofwindenergycapacityattwoports. UnderSwachhBharatAbhiyaan(CleanIndiaInitiative),20activitieshavebeenidentifiedwithcertaintime-linetopromotecleanlinessattheportpremises.Someoftheactivitiesincludecleaningthewharf,cleaningandrepairingofsheds,cleaningandrepairingofportroads,modernizingandcleanlinessofallthetoiletcomplexesintheoperationalarea,placementofdustbinsatregularintervals,parksmanagement,cleaningandrepairingofalldrainagesandstormwatersystemsandtreeplantation. Inordertoachievetheseobjectives,regulartrainingwillbeprovidedtothestaffinordertogenerateawarenessandinculcateapositiveattitudetowardskeepingtheenvironmentcleanandgreen.AlltheMajorPortshavealreadyinitiatedactionontheabovementionedactivitiesandaremakinggoodprogress.
