TheMaritimeSingaporeGreenInitiative(MSGI),whichwasduetoexpireattheendofthisyear,wasintroducedbytheMaritimeandPortAuthorityofSingapore(MPA)in2011.ItcomprisesGreenShip,GreenPort,GreenTechnology,GreenEnergyandGreenAwarenessprograms. SpeakingattheSingaporeRegistryofShipsForum2019onNovember8,QuahLeyHoon,ChiefExecutiveoftheMPA,revealed: “IamgladtoannouncetodaythatwewillextendtheMSGIandenhanceitforanotherfiveyearstill31Dec2024.” “Wewillgiveitanewfocusondecarbonisation.Forexample,wehopethattheGreenAwarenessProgrammewillencourageyoutostartexploringcarbonreportingandinternalcarbonpricing,”sheadded. TheenhancedMSGIwillhavenewincentivestoencourageadoptionofenginesusingalternativefuelswithlowercarboncontentsuchasLNGaswellastheuseofLNGbunkerduringportstayandforshipsexceedingIMO’sEnergyEfficiencyDesignIndexrequirements. Asinformed,theMPAexpectsitstwoLNGbunkertankerstofacilitateship-to-shipLNGbunkeringforocean-goingvesselsfromQ32020onwards.
