TheportofSingaporecomprisesanumberoffacilitiesandterminalsthathandleawiderangeofcargotransportedindifferentforms,includingcontainersaswellasconventionalandbulkcargo.TheMaritimeandPortAuthorityofSingapore(MPA)isresponsiblefortheoveralldevelopmentandgrowthoftheportofSingaporetodevelopandpromoteSingapore. PortofSingaporeFacts: SingaporeiscurrentlythesecondlargestportintheworldintermsofTEUcapacity,thelargesttransshipmenthub,andtheworldleaderinbunkering. In2015,morethan45milliontonnesofbunkerswereliftedinSingapore.Thisisenoughtofillover17,000Olympic-sizedpools. Singaporeiswell-connectedto600portsinover120countries. Atanyonetime,thereareabout1,000vesselsintheSingaporeport. VesselspassingthroughtheSingaporeStraitaremonitoredbytheMaritimeandPortAuthority's(MPA)PortOperationsControlCentre,usingtheVesselTrafficInformationSystem(VTIS),whichhasthecapabilityofhandlingupto10,000tracksatanyonetime. Annually,morethan130,000shipscallatSingapore. Today,therearemorethan5,000maritimeestablishmentscontributingabout7%toSingapore'sgrossdomesticproduct,andemployingmorethan170,000personnel.
