Ihavealotofthingstosayaboutthisbook,noneofthemgood,prettymuchallofitisaspoiler.Somepeoplereallyenjoyedthisbooksoconsiderthatbeforedecidingtospoilthisbook'sentireplotbyreadingmyridiculously(anduncharacteristically)longspoilerbelow:(viewspoiler)[Spoilertime!Seriously,thisisgoingtobelong!ThestoryWheredoIevenbegin?!Ok,firstoffthisbookisaboutahusbandandwifewhodecidethatmurderingwomenissomehowaturnonandkeepstheirmarriagefunandsexy.Whichonit'sownisenoughtomakemenotwanttorecommendthisbookbecausethatreallyskeevedmeoutdespitethefactthattherearenoexplicitsexscenesormurderscenesinthisbook.Buthowdidthiscouple,whohavetwoteenagechildrennoless,getintothissickcrime?There'sareallylonguninterestingbackstorysoinsummary:basicallyMillicent(the'lovelywife'fromthebooktitle)managestogetherhusband'TSFP'(whichstandsforThatStupidFuckingPsycho,becausethisbooknevergiveshimaname)tokillhersisterHolly(whichisalsomyname;RIPHolly,youdidn'tdeserveallofthat)inthenameofdefendingMillicent.TheycoverupthesortofaccidentalmurderbecauseTSFPkilledherwithatennisracketandshewasunarmedandhadn'thurtanyoneyetsohewastotallygoingtogetjailtimeforthat.Next,someworkfriendofHolly'sputstwoandtwotogetherandtriestoblackmailTSFPandMillicentintopayinghertokeepquiet.ButinsteadMillicentkillsherto'protect'TSFPfromgoingtojail.Butnowthattheyeachhaveamurderundertheirbelts,allofasuddenmurderingseemsreallysexy.Sothat'swhenthingsgofromweirdtoreallystupid.TSFPandMillicentpickoutawomantokill,whohappenstoliketohike.Theytakethehiker'sunconsciousbodyouttothewoodstomurder/buryherbutunfortunatelytheirteenagedaughter,whowasatasleepover,callsbecausesheissickandneedstobepickedup.SoTSFPgoestodealwiththat,leavingMillicenttodothedirtywork.HeapparentlyneverasksanydetailsaboutwhatMillicentendedupdoingexactlywiththemurderingandburying.AyearlatertheybothdecidetogettheirmurderonagainandTSFPgoesouttrollingforpotentialvictims,disguisinghimselfasadeafmannamedTobias.Hesleepswithonewoman,butdecidessheshouldn'tbemurderedandthenafterrejectinganotherpotentialmurdervictim,hefinallysettlesonawomanforthemtomurdertogether.Butbeforetheygothroughwiththisnewmurderplan,thebodyofthehikerisdiscoveredandmakesthenewsbecauseeventhoughshehadbeenmissingforayear,shewasonlydeadforacoupleofdays.TSFPconfrontsMillicentaboutwhyshehasbeenkeepingthiswomanaliveandtorturingherforayearwithouthisknowledgeandsherevealsthatit'spartofhergrandplantopinthemurderonapreviouslocalserialkillerwhogotaway-Owen(Ithink,IlistenedtotheaudiobookandIcan'tbebotheredtoconfirmthat,solet'scallhimOweneitherway).Owenapparentlylikedtokeepvictimsforayearandthenmuder/dumpthem.SoTSFPthinksthatisaGREATideaandthenproceedstohelpcapturetheirnewvictim,leavingMillicenttodotheholding/torturing/murderingtokeepupwiththe'Owen'blamegame.Thentherewasalotofmeanderingstorylater,thatmostlyinvolvesTSFPbeingreallyworriedaboutbothhischildrenforvariousreasonsandmaybethatwassupposedtomakeusfeelsympathetictowardshimbutIwasjustboredinstead.Sofastforwardingpastthat,TSFPdiscoversthatMillicentissettinghimuptotakethewholeblameforthehikerandtheirlatestmurdervictim,plussomeotherwomenthathedidn'tevenknowMillicenthadkilled.Wellthatshouldjustnothappenandhowcanheleavehischildrentoberaisedbythismurderingpsycho?!(InsertWTFfacehereatthislogic)SoTSFPrunsandhidesbutstaysintownsohecantrytofindsomewayto'prove'hisquasiinnocenceorattheveryleastprovehiswife'sguilt.Hefailstodoanythingandsoasalastresorthegoeshometolookforsomeevidenceand/orkillhiswife.Hiswifeiswaitingforhimlikesomecartoonsupervillainandconvenientlyimplicatesherroleinthemurderswhiletheirdaughterwas,unbeknownsttoeitherofthem,listeningon.DaughterconfrontsMillicent.Sonshowsup.BothkidstrytogetMillicenttonotkillTSFPandintheenddaughterkillsMillicentwithaknife.EpilogueshowsthatthethreeofthemmovesomewhereelseandendswithTSFPflirtingwithanotherwomanwhileagainpretendingtobesomeoneelsewhoisdeaf.TheEnd.Whythisbookisevenmorestupidthanitalreadysounds-WhyisTSFPokwithhischildrenbeingraisedbymurdererswhenhewasinvolved,butnotwhenhismurderingwifeblameseverythingonhim?-AtonepointTSFPisontherunfromthepolicebutreachesouttoanoldfriendtotrytobreakintoatablethestolefromMillicent,hopinghewillhaveproofofherguiltonit.ThisfriendistotallywillingtoacceptthatTSFPisinnocent,eventhoughtherearesketchesof'Tobias'releasedtothepublicbeforethepoliceknewTSFP=TobiasandthatsketchlookslikeTSFP.EvenwhenDNAevidencelinkingTSFPtothemurdersceneisdiscovered,thefriendstilldoesnotturnhimin.Yeah,ok.Theyweren'teventhatcloseoffriends.-Therewasawholestupidsubplotaboutthedaughterbeingmentallyunwellduetoherfearof'Owen'comingtogether,someofwhichinvolvedhergettingstomachachesfrompresumablythestress.Also,TSFPfindsabottleofeyedrops'hidden'inthepantrybutMillicentisallergictothemsoitcouldn'tbeforhersowhyaretheyinthehouse?WhileTSFPisinhiding,heconcludesthatMillicentispoisoningtheirdaughterbyaddingtheeyedropstoherfoodtomakeherfeelsick,fornoclearreasonthatwasevergivenanywhereinthisbook.Sowhenhegoesbackhome,heconfrontsMillicentabouttheeyedroppoisoningandshedeniesitbutdaughteroverhearsthatpartoftheconversationandthinksthatbecause,asTSFPpointsout,MillicentcooksallofthefoodOFCOURSEHERMOTHERMUSTNOWBEAMURDERERANDMUSTBEKILLED.Like,what?!?!Whywouldshenotjustassumebothofherparentsarecrazyandrunawaywithherbrotherandletthepolicehandleit?-TSFPisnotconvictedofanyofthemurders,becausetheDNAevidencewasalldecomposedatthesameratebuthowcouldthatbewhenhewassupposedtobemurderingthesewomenoveralongperiodoftime.Thatistheevidencethatexonerateshim,becausesomehowthatmeanseveryoneassumesalltheDNAmustbeplanted?Andnoonewonderswhythewomanwhohehadsexwith(anddidnotmurder)identifiedhimasTobiasand'Tobias'wasscrawledintothewallbyavictim?He'sjustfoundinnocent.YEAHOK.TOTALLYPLAUSIBLE.OhandMillicent'sdeathwasselfdefense.-Smallthingthatreallyannoyedmeforsomereason:Ifamassmurderer(Millicent)isinturnkilledinahouse,wouldthathousesellforalotofmoney,enoughforthefamilytomovetoanothercountry,asindicatedinthebook?Ithinknot.-Lastbutnotleastasageneralproblem:ThecharactersinthisbookareSOFLAT.Millicentexpressesnowarmthtowardsanyone,notevenTSFPortheirchildren.Thesonisjustagenericchildwhosometimesgetsintheway.Thedaughterisoverdramaticallyupsetbythe'returned'serialkillerandsomehowherstomachachesofallthingsbecomesabigpartoftheending.TSFP'ssortofbestfriendisanidiotlikeImentionedbefore.Thewomenwhoarevictimsoralmostvictimsareallbarelydescribedand/orinteractedwithbeforeleavingthestoryordying.Theleaddetectiveisacaricatureof'hardasswomancop'.Literallynoneofthesecharactersseemedlikerealpeople.LeastofallTSFPbecausehespendsSOMUCHTIMEworryingabouthischildreneventhoughhespendsnotimethinkingaboutthelivesofhismurdervictims.Hedoesn'texactlycomeacrossasarealperson,atleastnotalogicalone.(hidespoiler)]Ok,rantover.Ionlygavethis2starsinsteadof1becausethewritingwasnothorrific.Justtheentirestoryprettymuchwasterribleinmyopinion.BUTIAMPRETTYMUCHTHEONLYPERSONWHOFEELSTHISWAYsomaybemyabilitytoenjoythiskindofbookisjustbrokenandIneedtostayawayfromthesekindsofthrillersforawhile.Thatactuallysoundslikeagoodplan.I'mgoingtodothat.
