但經過40年在台東保種有成，遷徙回蘭嶼的母豬，終於成功誕下回流第一代的蘭嶼豬，創下先例，也延續島上原生種豬的傳承。

黝黑的3隻小豬依偎在母豬旁喝奶，模樣好可愛，牠們就是保種40年，回流蘭嶼後誕生的第一代蘭嶼豬。

[[農委會主委陳吉仲]]“40幾年我們終於可以在去年，讓我們的蘭嶼種豬可以回流到我們的蘭嶼，其實這個背後有很大的政策的涵義，那個政策的涵義就是農業跟生產，跟文化跟生態是完全的息息相關”蘭嶼小耳豬起源於60萬年前，是台灣獨有的豬種，又稱小耳種豬、迷你豬，特色是黑色小耳、體型小。

近年逐漸轉為實驗用途，但過去可是蘭嶼島族人重大慶典必備，由於長年與商業豬混入雜交，外貌特徵已經不同。

畜產試驗所在民國69年啟動引種計畫，讓蘭嶼豬純正血脈，在台東種畜繁殖場保存，目前年產量大約500頭，今年1月10頭公豬和18頭母豬返回蘭嶼復育，6月母豬順利誕下3頭豬寶寶，創下家畜豬，域外回流成功的先例。

[[農委會主委陳吉仲]]“蘭嶼的種豬回流到蘭嶼其中的目的之一，就是避免這一些重大的，一個動物的這個傳染疾病，那我想這是一個原因之一，但更重要的是蘭嶼豬這個品種，在四十幾年前由我們的畜試所，開始做這樣的一個保種，那這種工作絕對會持續的，不會是只有針對蘭嶼，我們後續還會有很多的，各式各樣的保種工作也都持續在進行”經過40年的努力，蘭嶼豬歸鄉繁殖成功，也成為保種復育重要的里程碑。
