MedicinalTreatment Adoptingmultipleorhighdosageofmedicationofconsolidatedtreatment.  Theflawisthelikelyincreaseofadverseeffectsfromthemedicineandcouldleadtounforeseeabledrug-druginteraction.Moreoverifthepatientsfailtocomplywithmedicalorder,theeffectofmedicinaltreatmentcouldbelimited. Non-MedicinalTreatment Latesttreatment“RenalDenervation(RDN). CMUHhassuccessfullycompletedRenalDenervationproceduresinthepastfewyears. Q&AforRenalDenervation(RDNTreatment) Q:Wouldthepatient’srenalfunctionbenormalaftertheprocedure? A:Long-termclinicaltrialsrevealthat(HTN1&2)therenalfunctionremainednormalafterreceivingRDNtreatmentwithoutanycomplication.Thesuccessfulcasesofrenaltransplantationalsoprovedthatrenaldenervationdidnotimpairrenalfunction.Infact,denervationitselfhelpedloweringthebloodpressureinthesepatients,therebyprotectingtheheart,kidneyandbloodvesselsaswellasotherorganstopreventthehealthproblemscausedbyhypertension. Q:Isthetreatmenttraumatic? A:Thepatientsremainconsciousduringtheentiretreatmentbutcanstillfeelmildpain.Thewoundfortreatmentwillundergolocalanesthesiaandpatientsmayreceivepain-killerifnecessary.Whenthecatheterentersthebody,thepatientmayfeelminorpullinglikesensation. Butthepatientwillnotfeelthemovementofthecatheterduetothelackofnervewithintheartery,whichreducestheiranxietyanddiscomfort. Q:Howdothephysiciansconfirmthecatheterisplacedonthecorrectposition? A:Thephysicianwillapply“fluorescencemicroscopy”technique: Thephysicianwillinjectthecontrastmediaintotherenalarteryofthepatientviathecatheterbeforeconductingthetreatment.UnderthesupportofX-raytechnology,renalarterywillbeclearlydemonstratedonthemonitorsothephysiciancancontrolthepositionoftheinstrumentinsidethebodyduringthetreatment.
