Tabletennis[edit] UnderITTFregulations,ifafterawarningtheplayermisbehavesagain,theumpirewillshowhimorherayellowcardandaredcardtogetherandawardonepointtotheopponentforthesecondoffenceandtwoforthethirdone.Incaseaplayercommitsaseriousoffenceorcontinuestomisbehaveafter3pointsareawardedtotheopponentformisbehavior,theumpirewillsuspendplayandreporttothereferee,whohasthepowertodisqualifytheplayerfromthematch,showingaredcard.Theumpirecanshowaredcardtoanauthorisedadvisorandaskthemtoleavetheplayingareaiftheygiveillegaladviceafterawarninghadbeengiven.[19] Othertypesofpenaltycard[edit] Greencard[edit] Infieldhockey,atriangular-shapedgreencardindicatesa2-minutesuspensionforfieldplayersandawarningforacoach. APennStatefieldhockeyplayerreceivesagreencard. Agreencardisusedinsomesportstoindicateanofficialwarningtoaplayerwhohascommittedaminoroffencethatdoesnotwarrantamoreserioussanction. Athletics:Agreencardindicatesthattherecalldidnotwarrantawarning,whichmostcommonlyhappenswhenthemachinesusedtocatchfalse-startersmakeamistake.[4] Canoepolo:Agreencardindicatesanofficialwarningthatcanbeappliedtoanindividualplayerorawholeteam.[10]Agreencardcanbeawardedfordeliberateunsportingbehaviororunnecessaryverbalcommunicationtothereferee. Fieldhockey:Agreencardindicatesanofficialwarningwhenaminoroffencehasoccurredresultingina2minutesuspension.Asecondgreencardforthesameplayerwillresultinayellowcard(5minutesuspension).Inthiscase,theumpirewillshowagreencard,followedbyayellowcard.Whenanoffenceforwhichagreencardhasbeenawardedisrepeated,ayellowcardshouldbeawarded.Agreencardcanbegiventoaspecificplayerortothecaptainasawarningtotheentireteam.Cardsshowntothecaptainasawarningtotheteamaretreatedseparatefromcardsshowntothecaptainasaplayer.Inadditiontotheircolour,greencardsinfieldhockeyaretriangularinshape.[13]UnderFIHRulesofHockey,thegreencardcarriesatwo-minutesuspensionduringwhichtimethatplayer'steamplayswithonefewerplayer. Whitecard[edit] Inbandy,awhitecardindicatesafive-minutepenaltywhileabluecardindicatesaten-minutepenalty. Awhitecardisusedinbandytoindicateafive-minutetimedpenaltygiventoaplayer.[9]Theoffendingplayermustleavetheplayingareaandwaitonapenaltybenchnearthecentrelineuntilthepenaltyhasexpired.Duringthe5minuteperiodtheplayermaynotbereplaced,althoughheorshemaybereplacedwithadifferentplayerwhenthepenaltyhasexpired.Offencesthatcanwarrantawhitecardincludetryingtohindertheopponentsfromexecutingafree-stroke,illegalsubstitutionorrepeatedillegalbutnon-violentattacksonanopponent. Inthe2012SuperRugbyseasoninrugbyunion,aWhiteCardwasintroducedforincidentsofsuspectedfoulplaywheretherefereeisunsureoftheidentityoftheperpetrator,orwheretherefereeisunsureifaredcardiswarranted.Theincidentislaterreferredtothecitingcommissioner,andmayresultinasuspensionfortheoffendingplayer.[22]Itissimilartoacitationsign(armscrossedabovethehead)inrugbyleague.However,in2013theInternationalRugbyBoard,nowknownasWorldRugby,extendedthepowersoftheTMOtoincludereviewingsuspectedincidentsoffoulplay.[23]Asaresult,nowhitecardswereissuedin2013.[24] Bluecard[edit] Abluecardisusedinbandytoindicateaten-minutetimedpenaltygiventoaplayer.[9]Theoffendingplayermustleavetheplayingareaandwaitonapenaltybenchnearthecentrelineuntilthepenaltyhasexpired.Duringthe10minuteperiodtheplayermaynotbereplaced,althoughheorshemaybereplacedwithadifferentplayerwhenthepenaltyhasexpired.Abluecardistypicallyshownforoffencesthataremoreseriousthanthosewarrantingawhitecardincludingattackinganopponentinaviolentordangerousway,causingadvantagebyintentionallystoppingtheballwithahighstickorprotestingareferee'sdecision. AbluecardisalsofrequentlyusedinindoorsoccerintheUnitedStates,signifyingthattheoffendermustleavethefieldandstayinapenaltybox(usually2–5minutes),duringwhichtimetheirteamplaysdownaman(identicaltoicehockeyandrollerhockey).Ifagoalisscoredbytheteamoppositeoftheoffender,thentheoffendermayreturntothefieldimmediately.ItisalsousedintheClericusCupassociationfootballleaguefora5-minutebenchpenaltyforunsportsmanlikeplay.Anditisalsousedinthebeachsoccerfora2-minutebenchpenaltyforunsportsmanlikeplay. Abluecardisalsousedinquidditchtoindicateatechnicalfoul.Thefoulingplayerissenttothepenaltyboxforoneminuteoruntilagoalisscoredagainstthefoulingplayer'steam.Unlikeayellowcard,thereisnoadditionalpenaltyformultiplebluecards.[21] ThebluecardhasbeeninuseinHandballsincetheInternationalHandballFederationannouncedarulechangethatcameintoeffectonJuly1,2016.[25]FirsttheRedCardisshown,thentherefereewillafterashortdiscussionshowthebluecard.FollowingthatawrittenreportwillaccompanythescoresheetandtheDisciplinaryCommissionwillthendecideonfurtheractionsagainsttheplayer.[26] Blackcard[edit] Infencing,ablackcardindicatesanexclusionfromtherestofthecompetition. Arefereeinfencingissuesablackcardtoafencer,excludingthefencerfromtheremainderofthecompetition Ablackcardisusedinfencing.Itisissuedbythedirector,ortherefereeforsevereruleinfractions.[12]AsecondinstanceofaGroup3offence,andallGroup4offencesincludingdeliberatebrutality,refusaltofence,refusaltosalute,andrefusaltoshakehandscanbepunishedwithablackcard.[12]Whentheblackcardisissued,theoffendingfencerisexcludedfromtheremainderofthecompetitionandmaybesuspendedfromfurthertournaments.Intheofficialrecordofthetournament,theirnameisreplacedwiththewords"FENCEREXCLUDED".[27] Ablackcardisalsousedinthesportofbadmintontoindicatedisqualification.[28] IntheGaelicGamesofGaelicfootballandhurling,atickorblackbook–wasformerlyrecordedagainstaplayerforaminorinfringementnotwarrantingayellowcard,thoughmultiplebookingswillresultintheissuanceofayellowcard.TheactoftherefereephysicallyholdinguphisblacknotebookinthesamemannerasacardhasbeendiscontinuedbytheGAA.[29] BeginningJanuary1,2014aplayerinGaelicfootballcanbeorderedoffthepitchfortheremainderofthegamewithasubstitutionallowedbybeingphysicallyshownaBlackCard(thereferee'sblacknotebook)inthesamemannerasanyotherpenaltycardfor"cynicalbehaviour,"includingblatanttripping,pullingdownandbodychecking.Thisforcedsubstitutionisanintermediatepunishmentbetweentheyellowandredcards.Aplayerwhoreceivesayellowcardandablackcardinthesamegameissentoffwithoutanysubstitutebeingpermitted.[30] AsofJanuary2020,aplayerwhoreceivesablackcardisejectedfromthefieldtotheSinBinforaperiodoftenminutes.Theplayermayreturntothefieldafterthisperiodhaselapsed,duringabreakinplaywiththepermissionofthereferee.IfamatchextendsintoextratimeandtheplayerhasnotbeenintheSinBinfortenminutes,theymustserveanyremainingtimebeforerejoiningplay.Asinpreviousyears,aplayerwhoreceivesbothayellowcardandablackcardortwoblackcardsisthenshownaredcardandejectedfortheremainderofthematchandcannotbereplaced.[31]
