Primaryaldosteronism(PA)isatypeofaldosterone excess(hyperaldosteronism).Thisconditionoccurswhenyouradrenals,twosmallglandslocatedonthetopofthekidney,producetoomuchofaldosterone.Aldosteroneisahormonethathelpsbalancethelevelsofsodium(salt)andpotassiuminyourbody.Havingtoomuchaldosteronecausesthebodytoholdontosodium,resultinginsaltandwaterbuild-upandariseinbloodpressure.Uncontrolledhighbloodpressurecanputyouatriskforstroke,heartattack,heartfailure,orkidneyfailure.TheriskofheartdiseaseandstrokemaybeevengreaterinpeoplewithPAthaninotherpeoplewithhighbloodpressure.
