ClintEastwood’sfilmofDennisLehane’sacclaimednovel(scriptedbyBrianHelgeland)isadark,vividtaleoffamily,community,loyalty,andjusticeonthestreets.Asacraftsman,Eastwoodmeetsthetight,interlacedstructureofHelgeland’sscriptwithadrivingpacethatneverpushestherhythmoftheindividualscenes,yetdrivesthefilmasifit’sracingoutofthecontrolofallthecharacters.Butit’shisrecognitionofthedarknessintheheartsofthecharacters,thewaytheirlivesneverescapetheirpast,andwhatittakestolivewithitall,thatgivesthefilmitsresonance.
