Whenthepersonstartstobreathenormallyagain,aorticpressurebrieflydecreasesastheexternalcompressionontheaortaisremoved,andheartratebrieflyincreasesreflexively(phaseIII).Thisisfollowedbyanincreaseinaorticpressure(andreflexdecreaseinheartrate)asthecardiacoutputsuddenlyincreasesinresponsetoarapidincreaseincardiacfilling(phaseIV).Aorticpressurealsorisesabovenormalbecauseofabaroreceptor,sympathetic-mediatedincreaseinsystemicvascularresistancethatoccurredduringtheValsava.Similarchangesoccurwheneverapersonconductsaforceexpirationagainsteitheraclosedglottisorhighpulmonaryoutflowresistance,orwhenthethoracicandabdominalmusclesarestronglycontracted.Thiscanoccurwhenapersonstrainswhilehavingabowelmovement.
