Thisstrainhasahighincidenceofhepatoma.EvenifMMTVisnotpresent,virginandbreedingfemalescandevelopmammarytumours.Despiteanatherogenicdiet,C3H/HeNmicedonotdevelopaorticatherosclerosis,incontrasttotheC57BL/6J.ThereisageneticallymediateddifferencebetweentheC3H/HeNandtheC3H/HeJregardingtheirresponsetobacterialendotoxin(LPS).ThisresponseislinkedtotheTL4protein(Toll-likereceptor4;previouslylps).C3H/HeNareTlr4lps-n(toll-likereceptor4;normalLPSresponse),previouslyLPSn.ThisstrainwillhaveanormalresponsetoanLPSchallenge,itissaidtobeendotoxin-sensitive.Percontra,theC3H/HeJstrainisTlr4lps-d,previouslyLPSnandsaidtobeendotoxin-resistant.
