英文課程
本類課程為大學部大二~大四學生及大一符合「外語課程修習辦法」第二點之大一學生選修 新聞英語 本課程在於指導學生有關新聞英語各項特點之瞭解,其中包括新聞標題之結構特徵,新聞報導中標題用語比喻用法、成語用法及文字之簡縮表達,在課程中並引用報章雜誌之報導反覆練習,以提昇學生自行閱\讀英文報章雜誌之能力同時此課程也在語言教室,訓練學生視聽新聞報導之能力。
商用英文 1. 幫助學生了解一般商用英文的特性,使學生熟悉一般商務信函之書寫格式。
2. 加強學生之英語文能力,並強調學生應主動發掘自己學習的需要和目的,讓學生針對自己的需要和目的來加強商用英文的能力和技巧。
3. 強調學生應將自己的英文能力應用和發揮在日後可能面對的商業情境。
4. 為加強學生口語的表達能力,本課程讓學生有很多機會聽英語,以及說英語的機會。
5. 由於課程不屬於寫作課,僅提示寫作要領與範例,以供學生參考。
實用英文寫作 1. 經由文學作品之欣賞來增進英語能力。
2. 藉由修辭策略之訓練,以加強各式說明文之寫作能力。
3. 訓練基本英文應用文寫作之能力。
進階英文聽力與討論Thiscourseisofferedtostudentstoexposethemtoawiderangeofinterestingacademictopicsandprovidethemwithpracticeinlisteningtorelatedmaterialandthenanalyzingwhattheyhearthroughstructuredbi-weeklydiscussions.Theassignedtextfocusesonmulti-disciplinarylecturesandactivitiesfocusedonnote-taking.Unitshavebeengroupedaccordingtoacademicdiscipline(eg.psychology,business,science,etc)andstudentswillworkindividuallyontextpracticeandtheningroupstofocusononetextunitwithinthatdiscipline,conductingregularlyscheduleddiscussionsinclass.Inadditiontothetextmaterial,theteacherandstudentswillselectrelevantsupplementaryaudio-visualmaterials(suchasTEDTalks,Youtubevideos,oraudiopodcasts)whichwillbethefocusofmidtermandfinaloralpresentations.Thegoalofthecourseistoenablestudentstoactivelylistentoandcompetentlytalkaboutvarioussubjectsofinterestinacademicsettings,aswellastogainvocabularyandnote-takingskills.Althoughthereisastrongacademicfocus,themainaimofthecourseistostimulateinterestengagingtopicswhilepromotingalivelyandfunatmosphereforEnglishlanguagepractice.進階英文閱讀與寫作ThiscourseisforstudentsinterestedinimprovingtheirproficienciesincriticalEnglishreadingabilitiesandinconstructingpersuasivearguments.Withafocusondeveloping/strengtheningcriticalthinking,studentswillstudyandexerciserhetoricalstrategiesforclearcomprehensionandlogicalanalysis.Inadditionaltothereadingandwritingexercisesthatdemonstrateargumentanalysis,studentswillanalyzetextsintheformofnewsarticlesandbookexcerpts.Asstudentsemploystrategiessuchaslocatingkeyterms,identifyingmainclaimsandsupportingclaims,andaccountingforassumptions,theywillacquiretheskillsforunderstandingarguments,shapingthe“topicallandscape”,andbuildingstrongargumentsoftheirown.Whileexaminingthewritingtechniquesusedtoproducethetextstheyarestudying,studentswillalsobesimultaneouslyproducingtheirowntextsinordertostartincorporatingthesetechniquesintotheirownwritinghabits.進階英文閱讀與討論TheaimofthiscourseistoenhancestudentscriticalEnglishreadingabilitiesanddevelopmoreformaldiscussionskillsbasedoncriticalreadingofandreferencetosourcematerials.Inthisclass,studentswillreadavarietyoftextsstyleswithenhancedfluencyfollowingcoherentandeffectiveuseofreadingstrategies.Studentswillalsoactivelyengageinextensivereadingwithacriticalperspective(e.g.,distinguishingbetweenfactandopinion,evaluatingsources,andidentifyingpointsofview).Discussionskillswillbepracticedinavarietyofformatsincludingwhole-classanalysisoftopicalissues,problem-solvinggroupwork,orshortindividualoralpresentations.Afocusonpronunciationofkeywordsandapplicationvocabularyorsentencestructurespresentedinreadingisrecommended.進階英文寫作Thecourseaimstohelpyoudevelopadvancedwritingskills.Inthiscourse,youaregoingtoexploredifferenttypesofwritingstylesandtopicsintraditionalessaywritingandInternet-basedwritingassignments.Itisexpectedthatbytheendofthecourse,youwillbeable to1.befamiliarwithessentialEnglishcompositionstructuresandwritingskills,2.beawareofwritingvariationofwritingfordifferentpurposes.3.criticallycommentonpeerwritingwork,and4.writinginvariousgenres英文演說:撰寫與發表Withanemphasisonspeechpresentationskills,thiscourseprovidesafocusonthemanywayswritingisinvolvedintheprocessofpreparing,presenting,andevaluatingspeeches.Fromoutliningandscriptinganorganizedspeechtolearningspecificlanguageusedinvariouspartsofspeeches,studentswillgetpracticewithmanyspeechwritingskills.Theseincludewayspresenterscanmaketheirspeechesclear(e.g.structuringtheopeningandclosing,simplifyingmessages,andchoosingformalorinformalexpressions)andmaketheirspeechesinteresting(e.g.usinggooddeliverytechniquessuchaspauses,stressandrepetition).CreatingeffectivePowerPointslidesandoutliningspeechcontentinhandoutswillbepracticed.Studentswillalsoengageinbeinggoodaudiencemembers,withwritingactivitiesfocusedonnote-taking,Q&Aandevaluation.Inadditiontopresentingandwatchingspeechesinclass,onlinespeechvideosfromToastmasters(internationalspeechclubpostsonYouTube)andTEDTalkswillbepresentedandreviewed.科技英文Thiscourseisdesignedtodevelopthefourskillsofreading,writing,listeningandspeakinginatechnicalcontext.Eachclasswillrevolvearoundpracticaltasksandactivitiesencouragingstudentstoprovidecreativesolutionstorealworldtechnicalproblems.Thesewillenablestudentstoconsolidateandapplytheknowledgetheybuildupoverthedurationofthecourse.Duringthecoursestudentswillberequiredtodiscussandalsogiveinformalpresentationsonawidevarietyoftechnicaltopics.Partofthecoursewillalsobededicatedtotechnicalwriting,givingstudentstheskillstosuccessfullywriteemails,memos,technicalreports,instructionsandprocedures.高級英文寫作ThecourseisdesignedtoimprovestudentsEnglishwritingabilitytoanacademiclevel.Studentswillimprovegrammarforacademicwriting,writedifferenttypesofessays,andwritearesearchpaper.高級英文討論與發表ThecourseaimstoimprovestudentsoverallcommunicativecompetenceonEnglishoralability.Studentswilllearnandpracticepreparedspeechesandpresentations,impromptuspeaking,andleadingdiscussions.Studentswillreceiveconstructivefeedback,presentationtipsandcommentsfromtheteacher.Studentsshouldcometoclasspreparedtointeractwiththeirpeers.英語演說與辯論 Asaleadershipdevelopmentcourse,thecontentandactivitiesprovidedwillemphasizetheimportanceofstrongoralcommunicationskillsinEnglish,aswellasgeneralskillssuchascriticalthinkingandorganizationofideas.Topicsrelatedtospeechpresentationwillincludeaudienceawareness,speechorganizationandoutlining,researchandvisualaidpreparation,andevaluationofsamplespeeches.Thecoursewilloffervarioustypesofhands-onpractice,asstudentswillexperimentwithvarioustechniquesinsmallgroups,presentindividualpersuasivespeechestotheclass,andparticipateingroupdebates.Asupportiveandlivelyatmospherewillbeencouragedandaselectionofsupplementarymaterials,includingvideoandonlineresources,willservetoinspireandinvolvestudents.
